Most Common Car Rental Lost and Found Items
If you have ever left anything behind in your rental car while hurrying to catch a flight – don’t worry, you are not alone, and we will always do our very best to restore whatever you’ve left behind.
Ideally, you should try to get in touch with the rental agent before leaving the country, city, or airport in order to see if they have found the lost property.
However, if you already find yourself cruising at 25,000 feet when you realise what’s happened then please get in touch with us once you reach home.
We’ve been at it for more than 10 years now, and during that time we’ve helped to arrange rental cars for thousands of customers covering over one million rental days all the way from Sydney to Perth.
During that time, it is more than fair to say that we’ve seen some highly unusual requests when customers contact us to find out if they can get back something they left in their rental car.
The most common item by far left behind in rental cars is glasses or sunglasses, and our lost and found department has done its best to reunite hundreds of customers with their glasses over the years.
Number two on the list of commonly abandoned items is a teddy bear or other stuffed animal.
Though these are a little trickier to reunite, not to mention easier to simply replace because of the low cost, reuniting a precious toy to its little owner is far more rewarding for us, as anyone who has children will understand all too well.
As for other common items, here is a list of the most common things left behind in a rental car along with the most unusual requests.
The Most unusual item left in a rental car:
Before getting too excited, remember that this list only includes items which are reported to us.
Accordingly it does not include any of the truly embarrassing and hilarious items that customers have not had the courage to try to reclaim.
Though on one occasion, we did receive a request for a human child!
It’s true, we have had a customer report that they left behind their child in our rental car and asked if we could please return it to them.
Though we were alarmed and confused at first, as it turned out it was only the child’s SEAT that was left behind and not the actual child. This claim quickly turned from alarming to expensive on account of the costs involved in returning a child’s car seat to the UK from Australia.
Car Rental Lost Property:
Most of our car rental partners operate a lost and found department used to reunite customers with their forgotten items.
The process is fairly straightforward if everything is taking place within the Australia; however things can get more complicated and expensive if it becomes a matter of international reunion.
Nevertheless if you have left something behind in a rental car do get in touch with us and we will do our best to get it back to you.
What should you if you leave an item in your rental car?:
- Contact the rental agent as soon as possible and tell them your reservation ID no. along with the car registration
- Provide them with a description of the lost item
- If you can remember let them know where it was left in the car
- Give them your contact information in order to get back to you
